JOB SUMMARY
The Compliance Specialist maintains knowledge of current environmental laws and regulations as they apply to the plant, and uses that knowledge to ensure compliance with all applicable permits. They interface with regulatory agencies (ADEM, Jefferson County Department of Health, EPA, etc.) when they are on-site, assists in permit application development and reporting process, and ensures notification of the appropriate agency(s) in cases of non-compliance. The Compliance Specialist must be able to recognize environmental issues that require attention and address them appropriately.
This position will be filled at a level dependent on applicable experience.
JOB DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
Ensures compliance with permits by monitoring equipment and interfacing with plant personnel and contractors.
Investigates non-compliance incidents, ensures timely and complete notification of appropriate regulatory agencies, and directs the work activities of contractors and employees in emergency situations.
Coordinates projects, including interfacing with employees, contractors, and regulatory agencies.
Performs specific environmental tests, and maintains current knowledge of and required certification for such tests to ensure they are performed correctly.
Develops and tracks short and long-term budgets to ensure that necessary funds are available to meet current and future environmental needs.
Works closely with Environmental Affairs and other support organizations to ensure proper implementation of compliance program.
Communicates environmental requirements, and environmental compliance information to plant employees and management.
Develops plant environmental compliance strategies, policies, procedures, action plans, and guidelines as they pertain to the air risk area.
JOB REQUIREMENTS
Bachelor''s degree in Chemistry, Biology, Environmental Science or related field, or equivalent experience - Preferred
Must be a self-starter with excellent problem solving and analytical skills and the ability to troubleshoot complex systems.
Working knowledge of current environmental laws and regulations (such as NPDES, Title V, etc.) as they apply to a fossil generation plant - Preferred
Project management experience - Preferred
Must be certified, or be able to gain certification, to perform specific tests as related to this job.
Must have a good working knowledge of power plant operations.
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills with previous experience in writing and delivering presentations.
Must be proficient in the use of computer applications (Microsoft Office applications).
Must have a working knowledge of Corporate Safety Generation safe work practices.
Knowledge of fossil generation''s regulatory compliance programs.
May be periodically required to work nights and weekends.
